Keynote Presenter: Barry Lapointe
CEO KF Aerospace
Barry Lapointe will share his highly acclaimed
God I Love Aviation! presentation with our delegates and guests.
Barry was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. Barry graduated with honors from the BCIT Aircraft Mechanic Engineer course in 1966 as class president.
Completing his commercial pilot's license in 1967, Barry has accumulated over 17,000 hours of flying.
Barry moved to the Okanagan Valley in 1968 and started
Kelowna Flightcraft in 1970. The company initially performed only maintenance inspection checks. But over the years this has expanded to courier and charter services, aircraft maintenance, and is now one of the largest Maintenance Repair Operation (MRO) in Canada.
Barry is proud to acknowledge steady growth and profitability since the inception in 1970. KF Aerospace Ltd is now one of the oldest privately owned aviation companies in Canada today.
The KF Aerospace Group of Companies is a success story, which has now grown to over 1000 employees and numerous operations across Canada. These operate out of 2 main bases in Kelowna and Hamilton. Allied Wings, a large subsidiary of the KF Group, they train all Canadian Military Pilots out of Portage La Prairie in Central Canada.
Barry has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree from the BCIT, was Entrepreneur of the year for Pacific Region, and also been awarded The Aerospace Training Innovator award from Aerospace Industry Association of British Columbia (AIABC) and the Pacific Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association (PAMEA) award in 2005.
He is a strong supporter of many other groups. He was Chairman and secretary on the Airline Transport Association of Canada (ATAC), and he sits as a Board Director of Purolator Canada and was also a past member of the UBC / UBCO Board of Governors.
Barry is also the proud recipient of the Order of British Columbia, awarded to him in June 2015.
EmCee: Mikey McBryan
Many recognize Mikey as the laid-back star personality at Buffalo Airways, son of infamous Buffalo Joe. What many don't know is that Mikey is the General Manager of Buffalo Airways and a graduate of the Red Deer College Business Administration program.
Mikey worked in front and behind the camera as a consultant with Omnifilm Entertainment Ltd. on the award-winning television series Ice Pilots NWT, as well as provided consulting services for the CBC Television Show Arctic Air. As a result of the high demand from fans, Mikey began his own company
Buffalo Airwear to sell branded merchandise, and most recently has formed a new production company, McBryan Media, currently producing the feature length documentary
"Pixelated Heroes".
We are excited to have Mikey join us in Kelowna as EmCee for our Welcome Dinner and Banquet Dinner events!
